01 / THE DESIGN BRIEF

Build the idea.

Visual direction for the composition, typography, colour palette and interactions.

Build a fullscreen interactive hero for Interval, a quiet focus timer for people who want to give one task their undivided attention. Use apricot cream #f6ead8, a sand ruler band #efdcc3, umber text #3b2a1c, muted brown #8a6a4e and sage #b9c6ad with a deeper sage #839575 for progress. Pair Young Serif for the expressive heading and large numeral with IBM Plex Mono for labels, controls and descriptions. Keep the atmosphere calm with fine brown rules and ample empty space. Place the Interval wordmark at the upper left, local time towards the upper right and an outlined Menu pill at the end. The heading reads Give one task a stretch of your day. Below it, present the session as one large editable sentence: an oversized 25, the small unit min, the word for and an underlined task field with the placeholder name one task. Place a sage Begin button alongside it on desktop. Run a full width horizontal ruler across the lower part of the viewport. Mark the hours of a 24 hour day with smaller ticks between them. A sage session block shows the selected start and end time. Drag the block to move it, drag its edge to change duration and drag the ruler to pan the day. Snap duration to five minute steps on release and display only rounded whole minutes throughout dragging. Support arrow keys and larger changes with Shift. Begin starts a real countdown with Pause, Resume and Reset. Keep both the large numeral and browser tab in whole minutes. Show restrained progress inside the block. Below 720px stack the sentence controls and use a full width Begin action while keeping the ruler usable. Include a compact menu dialog and a static sample session as the fallback.
